Snow. In Baton Rouge.

posted by George on December 11, 2008 at 18:54:35

Today we woke up to a very unusual occurance in south Louisiana - snow.

(Our northern friends may begin chuckling at our amazement with the frozen precipitation now)

It started sometime around 5am, and continued at full force until about 8am, when it turned into a mix of snow and sleet. Kimberly didn't seem to care about the snow when we took her out for a picture - the fact that she was in mid-nap mode probably didn't help that. I turned on the Christmas lights so that I could get some pictures of the house in a driving snow with Christmas lights on - something that isn't likely to be repeated anytime soon.

For those of you not from this area, it is important to know that snow is a very rare event for us. The last time we had any flurries was a few years ago on Christmas, and the last time we had any accumulation was January 1, 2002. We had about 2.5"-3" here at the house, and the news folks are telling us that this is the most snow we've had since 1988. Third or fourth largest snow "event" on record, in fact.

(you northern folk can stop laughing now, by the way...)
