Return to Work

December brought an end to my maternity leave. My first day back to work was December 3rd, which was also Kimberly's two month doctor's visit. George took the day off of work in order to bring Kimberly to see Dr. Katzenmeyer and to watch her for the day.It was a typical start to the day. I fed Kimberly at around 4:30 am, put her back to bed, and started getting ready. I thought I was doing good emotionally: I had my lunch packed, food prepared for Kimberly, etc...and then I got into my car. Once I started backing out of the drive way the tears started rolling down my cheeks. I was so sad to be leaving my little girl. Needless to say, all I thought about that day was Kimberly. However, it made it easier going back to work knowing her Daddy was taking care of her. It was also a huge help having Kimberly's grandparents living so close. During the week and a half that George and I were both at work Nana, Poppy, and Grandma babysat Kimberly. It was a comfort knowing that family was taking care of our precious little girl.
I think what also made going back to work easy was that I started back part time. Then the week leading up to Christmas I went back full time for one week. After that week George and I were off for a week and a half for the Christmas and New Year Holiday break.
Even though I was sad to be leaving Kimberly, I am very excited about returning to work. I have been assigned a new study that is very interesting to me. This study is looking at all aspects involved in the caused of obesity and type 2 diabetes: genetics, exercise, food consumption, etc. It has the possibility of comparing to the Framingham Heart Study in regards to obesity, which I learned about while in graduate school.
The next milestone is Kimberly starting daycare in January. We will keep you posted on how this goes!
