Kimberly Update

A few weeks ago Kimberly went in for her 4 month doctor's visit. At this visit she weighed 13 pounds 3 ounces, which is double her birth weight. Also, she got her second round of shots, which I am told she did not like. Dr. Katzenmeyer is pleased with her progress and development. However, due to Kimberly's severe eczema, she does not want us to start Kimberly on rice cereal until she is at least six months old. She said that if she was not being breast fed her eczema would be worse then what it is, which is hard to believe. Bottom line, Kimberly is developing well. She is blowing bubbles, lifting her head up, starting to roll over from her back to stomach, bringing EVERYTHING to her mouth, and is tracking objects with her eyes. It is amazing how much she has changed in such a short amount of time. She is such a happy, easy going baby.About a week and a half after her 4 month check up, I brought Kimberly back to Dr. Katzenmeyer thinking she had another ear infection. I thought this because she was pulling/scratching her ears and violently shaking her head. All of which she had done when she had the double ear infections in January. Good news: her ears were perfect. Bad news: her eczema was acting up again. In fact, Dr. Katzenmeyer wanted us to get in to see a dermatologist ASAP. She said the reason that Kimberly was shaking her head was because she was literally itching from head to toe. On a second note: in one and a half weeks Kimberly gained 1 pound. She weighted 14 pounds 3 ounces at this visit!
Luckily, last Thursday George brought Kimberly to the dermatologist. He said she has a pretty substantial case of eczema, which she probably got from me. He placed her on four prescriptions: 2 lotions for bad days, 1 lotion for good days, and an anti-histamine. George and I have making Kimberly look like a grease monkey, but she is looking so much better. We were amazed at how quickly the ointment help her skin. She is now no longer itching, and we are hoping that we can prevent another bad flareup now that we have some medication for her. Even the people at daycare said yesterday that Kimberly looks like a completely different baby!
We will keep you posted on any new developments.
